The Passage (Justin Cronin)

This book series was 👩‍🍳💋 for a lover of post apocalyptic stories.

After binge watching both The walking dead and fear the walking dead (having not seen them while they aired - where was I? Idk living under a rock clearly) I was in desperate need of more end of world new world survival content.

Every book series I tried felt like a hastily written hallmark movie version of the thing I loved. Too much romance or not enough substance.

This series is something different.

My FAVORITE part is that the story spans hundreds of years, seriously hundreds. It uses this style where you get intimate detailed stories about characters who might be another characters great-great grandfather long dead. This style made me yearn for an even deeper lengthier version of the story, like a directors cut for movies. Even when ten chapters of a long dead antihero told the complete story I couldn’t help but want more.

The lore is 🥰🥰🥰🥰. I am a big fan of what I like to call “family history mysteries”, if you have ever read one you know what I’m talking about. Books like The Weight of Blood by Laura McHugh or more recently The God of The Woods by Liz Moore. This series has a lot of those elements but with many families across many generations. It’s truly prolific.
